A woman in her 50’s observations on the Aspergers end of the Autism Spectrum (AS) and all that goes with it. The good, the bad and the ugly.
Recently self diagnosed with Aspergers. I’m actually excited by it all. It explains so much. It is nice to finally have all the pieces of the jigsaw puzzle. Now I’m trying to piece them together to better understand myself and Aspergers.
I don’t believe Aspergers to be a disease in need of curing. It is just the brain is wired differently. Some abilities are stronger and others are weaker. A poor ability to handle social situations is a common issue but again not everyone acts, reacts or has the same level of comfort as the next person with Aspergers. We are all different on the spectrum and I do not expect myself to have all the Asperger-like traits. I just want to better understand Aspergers and enjoy living with it.
Temple Grandin’s book Thinking in Pictures was my first step in realising that I had Aspergers.
Vivian Greene – Life isn’t about waiting for the storm to pass…it’s learning to dance in the rain.
Wow! This is such a great way to be dealing with a major turning point in your life. I love this. Goodluck with all of this. Thank you for stopping by my blog also. You made someone’s day
Thanks Peju for visiting and commenting. You’ve made my day too. 🙂
I will enjoy following your blog. I am reluctant to self diagnose, but it has been good even to have the possibility of saying to myself in my head ‘autistic’ instead of ‘stupid freak’. I am glad you are writing. I like to know what it is like for those who are not NT.
Self diagnose or don’t. It is really up to you. There is all the time in the world. Our worst critic is ourselves and we are harsh, so harsh. Would we be the same with others? I think not. Think autistic, or aspergistic or what ever word you chose to make up. 🙂 Asperger is a part of me, but I am so much more!
* nods * OK.
🙂
Glad to connect with you via victo dolore! Thanks for the comment like and I look forward to reading more from you. Like you, I am thrilled when I uncover a new piece to my puzzle! And, I’m privileged to have know, and know, fabulous people who make the most of their life with Aspergers. My best to you 🙂
Back at you! 🙂 Wow, what a nice comment to read first thing in the morning. Thank you. You have made my day! Look forward to reading more at your snowy site. 🙂 That will be the closest to snow I will get for Christmas! You are why blogging is fun, it’s all about the connection.
Thanks a bunch! Hope your week is off to a great start 😀
Thank you so much for the follow! I look forward to reading your blog, too!
Hi there, thanks for following The Unsimplelife! Interesting blog you have here, must say i don’t know too much about aspergers, interesting. 🙂
I don’t know too much about it either! I’m learning as I go, just like life I suppose. It may be harder to make it up as I go but it sure beats following the path for the masses.
I love the Vivian Greene quote. Kevin
Hi Kevin, thanks for taking the time to stop by. It’s a lovely quote, isn’t it. It happens to be raining today, so that means it’s a dancing day. Enjoy. 🙂 V
Thanks, enjoy your dancing in the rain. I have just come back from walking my dog so got rather wet as its raining here in London also! Best. Kevin
Hi vontoast, nice to meet you. I find your blog very interesting, and I love the closing quote to this about section. So true. From reading a few posts it sounds like you are already dancing in the rain.
Thank you for following our blog. I hope you enjoy the stories of our journey. And don’t be a stranger – come on over and join the conversation.
Cheers, Alison

Hello vontoast,
I stumbled upon your blog last night as I was google searching info on a show called ‘Toast of London’. Your writing is very relatable to me – I like your blog very much. My husband has Aspergers and I do too it seems. It’s taken me long time to face it, because I have PTSD which has overshadowed other aspects of my lived experience. I do hope that the Black Cat hasn’t got it’s claws into you too majorly at the moment.
Best Wishes
